We’re looking for a Senior UX Designer for our Design System team.
Wait… a Senior UX Designer role in a dedicated Design System team? Yes, you read that right!
We're looking for someone who is passionate about turning complex problems into powerful, accessible, customisable, and ultimately reusable interfaces.
You're a curious mind with a natural drive to improve the experience our designers, engineers, and customers will have when using our Design System to design and develop new Cargowise portals. In this role, you are someone who will confidently lead user research activities within a highly complex domain, and establish requirements that will support us in improving and scaling our components, patterns and layouts. You enjoy spending time on the tools and design solutions that you can take all the way from ideation to validation.
We are on an ambitious journey to establish a Design System for our market-leading enterprise product, Cargowise. This vast and powerful platform is the backbone of logistics operations for some of the biggest freight forwarding companies around the globe, with customers like FedEx, DHL, Toll, UPS, and many more. A deep and complex domain such as logistics requires solutions that can handle massive scale, allow for extreme customisations, and strive for maximum task efficiency at all times. Our users are educated experts who spend most of their working hours in our software and know how vital the integrity of the data is.
Our Senior UX Designers will have the unique opportunity to make their mark on a product with a significant real-world impact.
It's okay if this domain is new territory for you - our Design Principles may not be very familiar, but the challenges you'll have to tackle are fascinating, rewarding, and most likely something you have never encountered before!
The new WiseTech Global multi-brand Design System will be the central hub for all our applications. It will provide tools, support, and education to enable our Product, Design and Engineering teams to build cohesive and modern applications.
What does the work look like?
Cargowise is not just a piece of software; it's an operating system for the global supply chain. And as such, it's a complex, enterprise-scale tool for expert users. This means that the Design System we're creating is not a run-of-the-mill consumer centric one. We have to solve tough use cases in highly efficient ways, while treating the deep complexity and high level of customisability as key reasons why our big customers choose our software. There are not many Design Systems out there that we can learn from, many of our challenges require exploration and pioneering before they are fit for purpose. We are truly breaking new ground here in many ways!
Our Design Team follows the hub and spoke model: UX Designers are embedded in the business units (the spokes) to work with their teams on product challenges. Specialised UI & UX Designers work on the growing Design System (the hub) to enable the embedded Designers to solve those challenges.
You will join a dedicated team of Design System specialists, and play an important part in evolving the direction our user experience is taking. You will work closely with our dedicated engineering team on a cohesive delivery of our component library. You will support our embedded Designers by providing guidance, feedback, and support for their work to ensure the correct usage and implementation of the Design System.
A bit about who you are
You have 5-8 years of proven experience as a Product Designer / User Experience Designer for software products.
It’s second nature to you to conduct user research and translate insights into actionable designs with a strong drive to validate everything you do.
You conduct audits and gap analyses of current design solutions and propose improvements.
You have a deep knowledge of design patterns and best practices in user experience design.
You’re able to work independently, advocate for inclusive and human-centred design methodologies, and enjoy actively contributing to our Design culture and practices.
You’re confident in presenting complex research outcomes to an audience that is new to Design.
You enjoy working closely with other Designers, Engineers and Product Managers in a highly collaborative manner.
Design Systems are familiar to you - you might have used them in the past or contributed to one yourself.
While strong UI/Visual Design skills are welcomed, it is not a requirement for this role.
Don't meet all of those requirements? That's okay - if you're a Senior UX Designer with a passion for all things Design Systems, please reach out.
Some other things you might want to know
Our Design team is still relatively young but growing fast, both in numbers and influence. You'll be joining a team of passionate, diverse and talented Designers, and you'll be playing an active part in shaping our Design culture. There are many decisions that we still need to make together, and your prior experience will help us overcome future obstacles.
We've made sure that there are clear pathways for our Designers to progress in their careers that are personally supported by our Head of Design and endorsed by the wider business.
We're a hybrid working environment - at the moment, the Design team weekly in our Alexandria office in Sydney (but this can change in the future). We have a bunch of team and company-wide social events to get together as people and have some fun.
