We are looking for a Senior Systems Engineer in Sydney, experienced with installing, configuring and maintaining systems across both Windows & Linux systems who is able to operate at a highly competent and autonomous level, while supporting less experienced colleagues within the team.
Your key responsibilities will be:
- Own the day-to-day operation, stability, and performance of global server, storage, and virtualization environments
- Lead and execute maintenance, upgrades, and lifecycle management of infrastructure platforms
- Act as the highest-level escalation point for complex systems and infrastructure incidents
- Provide hands-on on-site and remote administration across Windows and Linux server environments
- Proactively monitor system health, investigate alerts, and resolve hardware, OS, and platform issues
- Lead incident response for critical outages
- Develop, maintain, and improve system documentation, standards, and operational procedures
- Design, document, and deliver infrastructure projects, including servers, virtualization platforms, and core software services
- Identify opportunities for automation, performance optimization, and technical debt reduction
We are looking for the following essential skills:
- Extensive experience administering enterprise-grade server and storage infrastructure in data centre environments
- Strong expertise in Windows Server administration (2022 and later)
- Strong Linux system administration experience
- Active Directory design, configuration, and administration
- Virtualization expertise across Hyper-V, VMware
- Strong scripting and automation capabilities (e.g. PowerShell, Bash, Python)
- Proven experience troubleshooting complex, multi-layered infrastructure issues in a production environment
- Hands-on experience designing, configuring, and supporting load balancing solutions (F5, HAProxy, NGINX, Azure Load Balancer, etc.)
Having any of the below is not essential but will be beneficial:
- Linux containerization and virtualization technologies (e.g. Docker, Podman)
- Configuration management or automation tools (e.g. Ansible, Puppet, SCCM)
- Cloud platform experience (e.g. Microsoft Azure, AWS, or GCP), including IaaS, hybrid environments, and identity integration
